Dallas Mavericks Trade Rumours

Wizards Were Close to Accepting Mavericks Trade for Kyle Kuzma

Mavs Trade Rumors: Kuzma, Wiggins, Finney-Smith

February 9, 2024 | 3:46 PM EST | By Dalton Trigg

The Dallas Mavericks were reportedly close to agreeing to a trade with the Washington Wizards that would have sent Kyle Kuzma to Dallas in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith and Andrew Wiggins. However, the deal ultimately fell through, as the Mavericks were hesitant to give up Finney-Smith, who is a key piece of their defense. The Mavericks reportedly remain interested in trading for an upgraded power forward ahead of the February 9th trade deadline.

Kuzma is averaging 21.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season, while shooting 45.2% from the field and 34.1% from three-point range. He would have been a valuable addition to the Mavericks' offense, which is currently ranked 22nd in the NBA in points per game. Finney-Smith is averaging 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game this season, while shooting 46.3% from the field and 39.5% from three-point range. He is a solid defender who can guard multiple positions.

The Mavericks are reportedly most interested in trading for a power forward who can stretch the floor and create his own shot. Some potential targets include Jerami Grant of the Portland Trail Blazers, Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz, and OG Anunoby of the Toronto Raptors. However, it is unclear if any of those players are available for trade.

The Mavericks have a record of 24-25 this season, which is good for sixth place in the Western Conference. They are currently in the midst of a four-game losing streak and are in danger of falling out of the playoff race. The trade deadline is February 9th, and the Mavericks will need to make a move soon if they want to improve their chances of making the playoffs.
