Purdue Basketball Star Dies

College Team Announces Passing

Former NBA player and Purdue University basketball star Caleb Swanigan has died at the age of 25, according to an announcement by his family on Tuesday. The Allen County Coroner's Office confirmed his passing.

Swanigan was a first-round pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and spent three seasons in the league with the Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings. He was a two-time All-American at Purdue and helped lead the Boilermakers to two NCAA Tournament appearances.

"The Purdue Athletics family is deeply saddened by the loss of Caleb Swanigan," said Purdue athletics director Mike Bobinski in a statement. "He was a remarkable young man who had a positive impact on so many people throughout his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time."

Swanigan's father, Carl Swanigan, died in 2014 from complications from diabetes. He was 6'8" and weighed nearly 500 pounds at the time of his death.
